Happy Day After The Day After The Election Day!

Well...... I've had this blog for over a year now, without posting anything, so I guess now is as good of a time to start as any.  So I'm going to post a journal I made on another site a while ago.

Also check out a Letter to the President that my friend wrote, which is worded much more nicely than mine, and is also one of the things that inspired me to write this journal: http://seektheonething.wordpress.com/2012/11/07/dear-mr-president/

And... here's my journal:

Well, Happy Day After The Election Day, everyone! I was kind of surprised when I saw that there were only two election-related journals in my inbox today, so I think I'll add one of my own.

I'm guessing most of you have figured out who won by now, but another thing you might not have heard is that Puerto Rico is about to become the 51st state!!!........... maybe........... Basically, the Puerto Ricans technically voted 61% in favor of becoming a state.... but a lot of people are questioning the validity of that vote, because of how the question was set up (I looked it up, I can give you guys the details if you want), which means they might try to overturn the vote. If Puerto Rico decides that, yes, it wants to be a state, then it will be up to the United States Congress to approve it.

Anyway, back to the presidential election. Some of you already know that I'm a conservative, and that I voted for Romney. So, I'm going to share some of my thoughts about the election and about politics in general, and I'll try my best not to be "butthurty" or whatever you want to call it. Also, a quick note- I'm not really sure exactly what I'm talking about yet, so I dunno how clear or organized this is going to be.

But anyway, here we go:

First off, it wasn't nearly as close as I thought it was going to be, in terms of both the popular vote and the electoral college. I thought Romney was going to win, but then again, I think I always think my candidate is going to win, so I guess that doesn't say much. But there were definitely more Obama supporters than I expected, and in terms of electoral votes the election was almost a landslide.

As for the electoral college, well, I'm sure some of you will roll your eyes at the timing of what I'm about to say, but.... I don't like it. It's a shame that in spite of all the Romney votes in Ohio, all 18 of the electoral votes went to Obama. I'm going to insist that I've always thought the system is bad, but of course I'm also going to admit that whether or not my candidate just won or lost probably affects how vocal I am about it... :)

Let's see... another thing that bugs me is how liberals and conservatives seem to think of each other (let alone how they act to each other). Liberals seem to think that we specifically want to help the rich and hurt the poor, and that really frustrates me. I believe that if this country started a shift toward the conservative side, everybody, both rich and poor, would be better off. I really do. It seems a lot of people think we want to hurt the lower class, but I really believe they would be better off. Likewise, I think everybody will be worse off with the choice that we've made this election.

Now, about me being a conservative. I'd say I agree with the Republicans 80%, maybe 90% of the time. Which is a lot more often than pretty much everybody here. And that also means I'm disagreeing with Democratic policies about 80% of the time (by the way, all of a sudden this paragraph is sounding really obvious and unoriginal... sorry about that). During the past few years, I've seen this country roll slowly downhill. And when I look at the future, I'm expecting our country to continue to get worse in almost every respect. I'll talk a bit more about my predictions for the future toward the end of this journal.

Now, a little bit about "facts"... Yeah, most of the facts you see or read aren't really facts... Now, I know for a fact (no pun intended) that we're all looking at different facts, and that's the reason we're coming to different conclusions (ok fine, it was completely intended). But I've also noticed a few times when a liberal and conservative will look at the same set of statistics and come up with opposite conclusions based on the data. I once had to prepare a debate about something politics-related (I can't remember what exactly) in 9th grade or so, and I discovered that my opponent and I were using the same exact data from the same website to argue different points. So... yeah.

And I'm sure the media is largely at fault for all that. I'm probably going to post a journal specifically about the media sometime soon, but I'm not going to really get into all that right now. But, back to facts- I think the "real" facts are on our side. Just like everyone else thinks.

(As a side note, my dad suggested a book to me called "How to Lie with Statistics"... I should probably try and find a copy somewhere)

So... predictions. I know everyone's getting tired of hearing "Are you better off today than four years ago?" all the time (I'm pretty tired of it, too). But I think that in 2016, we'll be worse off, and if we ask the question again, a lot more of you are going to say "no". As for the 2016 election, the Republican candidate will win by a decent margin, and I don't know who that candidate will be, but I hope it's someone who can help reunite the American people. That's another thing I'd want to write a journal specifically about: how to get this country closer together and more united. This political divide really is such a terrible thing.

OK well, as I look back at what I wrote, a lot of it seems obvious and redundant in retrospect, and I can't say I've really said anything original. But I think the point I really want to make is that I really do care about you guys. And I want what's best for everyone, not just me. If I'm wrong, and it turns out that our quality of life ends up improving, then that's a good thing. But as for now, I believe this nation is in a mess, and I want to help fix it.

Also, I'd like to mention just two more things that should be obvious before I finish:

To those of you who are being sore losers- please stop.
To those of you who are being sore winners- please stop.

Well, thanks for reading. Like always, we'll see what happens when it happens :)

And...

Cain-Jindel 2016!!! Yeah!!!

Seeya!
